TAKE 42 MEDALS AT WKC WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Last Week saw the first WKC (World Kickboxing Karate Council) World Championships held in Citywest. 11 countries including huge teams from USA and Canada descended on the venue. The Irish team whose members qualified through an elimination process earlier this year came from all corners of the country. Local club Tallaght Martial Arts had 28 competitors on the team in light contact and points fighting disciplines. The contest was run over 4 days beginning on Sunday Ist Nov. with first day of elimination rounds and ended with all the finals been fought on Wednesday.
The Local Club, Tallaght Martial Arts were the big medal takers, winning a massive 10 Gold medals, 7 Silver medals and 10 Bronze medals in the individual contests and then went on to take another huge trawl of 5 Gold Medals and 10 Bronze Medals in the team events. In Team Kids Boys; Marty Barry Gold, Team Boys; Gold Dylan Heffernan, Dean Barry & Luke Barry. Teams Girls; Gold Tolla Abedisi, Bronze, Kerry Browne, Nicole Bannon & Rebecca Kelch. and Team Men; Cian Corrigan, Sean Brennan & Shane Barry Bronze.
Gold Medals and the title WKC World Champion was taken by; Keri Browne Kids Girls -50Kg Light Contact, Ashleigh Martin Junior Girls -50Kg Light Contact, Shauna Bannon Junior Girls -60Kg Light Contact, Martin Bannon Vet Men +85Kg Light Contact, Marty Barry Kids Boys -45Kg Points Fighting, Sabrina Radford Junior Girls -50Kg Point Fighting, Ashleigh Martin Junior Girls -60Kg Point Fighting, Ryan Radford Junior Boys -45Kg Points Fighting, Dean Barry Junior Boys +70Kg Point Fighting, Cian Corrigan -70Kg Point Fighting.
Silver Medals were won by; Nicole Bannon Kids Girls -45Kg Light Contact and also in Kids Girls -45Kg Points Fighting, Kelly Conlon Junior Girls -50Kg Points Fighting, Luke Barry Junior Boys -70Kg Points Fighting, Tony Martin Vet Men -75Kg Points Fighting.
